definitely my favorite kelly performance from idol but that was a rather questionable note at 1:35. not sure if i like it or not

it was really questionable. the thing is she was not able to actually hit the note she wanted to. if you’ll notice it, she actually started at a flat and escalated.

I don’t a lot about singing, but even I dare to contradict the claim that she “was not able to actually hit the note”. You could as well say that she didn’t hit the notes at 1:20 or at 1:28, for instance, but these are no misses notes, as the pitch shifts up to the correct frequency are obviously intentional. To claim she didn’t hit the note at 1:35 is even less true, as there are two notes in the words “alive”, from one of which she slides up to the other. Or do we speak of different things?

KELLY actually did hit the note. IN the MuSic WORLD there are hundreds of terms dynamics which ppl dnt kno. Kelly is classicaly trained therefore knows of such things. Unlike many singers today KELLY is TECHNIQUELY “ONE of the BeSt”. She used a technique in music terminology called “SCOOPING”, she belted the note in mezzo-forte and then Crescendo into the note in her whistle register. THE PURPOSE is 2″BEGIN a vocal note SLIGHTLY BeLow the TARGET PITCH then slide up to the target pitch”.
